چکیده

Computation of contact point trajectories and forces exchanged between two bodies in contact are relevant to several disciplines. The solutions proposed in the literature are often too complex to be implemented in real time simulations, especially if rolling effects are considered. In this chapter, an algorithm for fast simulation of softfinger contact model with rolling effects is proposed. The main idea is to use Euler angle decomposition algorithm to quantitatively describe the torque exchanged about the normal at the contact point and the motion of the contact point due to rolling. The proposed algorithm is validated with simulations and a preliminary application to point-contact haptic interface is proposed.

Accuracy of Discrete Element Method Simulations: Rolling and Sliding Frictions Effects-Case study: Iron Ore Pellets

The discrete element method (DEM) has been used as a popular simulation method in order to verify the designs by visualizing how materials flow through complex equipment geometries.  Although DEM simulation is a powerful design tool, finding a DEM model that includes all real material properties is not computationally feasible.  In order to obtain more realistic results, particle energy loss du...

Investigation and Simulation of Wire Non-Asymmetric Rolling Process

The non-asymmetric rolling process of copper and brass wire has been simulated with the Abaqus software. Presented finite element model in this simulation of rolling predicted output curvature and contact surface width in the non-asymmetric mode (in equality of diameter of rollers, the rotational speed of the rollers and the rollers’ surface finish). The material used in this research has strai...

Real-time Rigid Body Simulation for Haptic Interactions Based on Contact Volume of Polygonal Objects

This paper proposes a new method for real-time rigid body simulations for haptic interactions based on a penalty method regarding contact volume. Analytical methods for calculation of contact forces require too much time to maintain fast update rates for haptic controls. In addition, they prohibit direct connection of haptic interfaces. Penalty methods, which employ spring-damper models for cal...

Soft Tissue Modeling Using ANFIS for Training Diagnosis of Breast Cancer in Haptic Simulator

Soft tissue modeling for the creation of a haptic simulator for training medical skills has been the focus of many attempts up to now. In soft tissue modeling the most important parameter considered is its being real-time, as well as its accuracy and sensitivity. In this paper, ANFIS approach is used to present a nonlinear model for soft tissue. The required data for training the neuro-fuzzy mo...
